Open circuit protection, laser tube failure is a dangerous scenario. When a laser tube fails due to the nature of the high voltages involved the voltage will jump from the positive end of the laser tube to the machine body. This is known as the lighting strike, it can and will damage sensitive and expensive components such as the laser controller and power supplies, worst case it can cause serious harm to the machine operator. In the event of a tube failure this power supply will detect the scenario in a very short time and cease to fire the laser.
